What we store, and for how long

For each order we store the email address, property address, date of loss, invite code, request time and the network address it came from, together with the files generated for that order. We also record every order request we receive, including ones we refuse, with those details and the outcome, and the email address and network address of every API-key request, for abuse control. All of this is retained for six years as the record of what was requested and supplied.

For an API key we store the email address that confirmed it and a one-way fingerprint of the key, never the key itself. For each lookup we store the address, date, request time, network address and the records returned, retained for six years like an order; results can be read through the API for thirty days.

For each forecast request we store the request time, the outcome, the location rounded to about a kilometre, and a one-way fingerprint of the network address or key; an address you type is used to find the location and is not stored. This is retained for six years like an order.

Our web server keeps two access logs for about two weeks, for reliability and abuse control. The server's standard log records the network address, the requested address including any query text, the referring page and the browser identifier for every request, as web servers do by default. A second, Weather of Record-only log records request time, path, status and an anonymised network address (last octet removed), with download and status addresses redacted; it contains no email address, no query text and no browser identifier. Neither log is used for advertising or shared.

Download links expire after thirty days, and the zip file is removed at that point. The provenance record is kept for the full retention period, because it is what makes a delivered report reproducible.

What we do not do

We do not sell, rent, or share this information, and we do not use it to advertise to you. We disclose it only where the law requires it.

The addresses and dates you submit are sent to the public government and volunteer-network services a report draws on, in order to retrieve records for that location. Those services are operated by third parties under their own terms.

No payment information is collected.

Requests

To ask what is held about you, or to ask for deletion, contact us using the address on the confirmation email for your order. Deletion may be limited by the six-year retention described above, which exists so that a delivered report remains reproducible.
